Description

The book The Economics Alphabet for Teens follows the book The Economics Alphabet for Children up to 12 Years Old by the same author and is aimed at teenagers, the future adults who will soon start making financial decisions (related to, for example, saving, investing, and borrowing). With this book, the Bank of Greece hopes to help them better understand financial and economic concepts that will be useful in their daily lives and in life in general.

According to numerous studies, financial literacy reduces social inequalities, contributes to the adoption of healthy economic habits, makes citizens more resilient to all kinds of economic crises, and potentially leads to economic prosperity. This book contains 127 terms that cover a broad field of knowledge: Economics, Finance, Economic History, and also the latest developments in Computer Science, such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Cybersecurity.

The book also includes six stories in comic format, which can be used for educational purposes, either as a whole or separately.

“This book represents a significant contribution at a time when knowledge is increasing exponentially and educational materials in our country remain outdated. […] This edition is an important new step for the dissemination of financial knowledge among secondary education students, offering them a valuable tool.” (from the preface by the Governor of the Bank of Greece, Giannnis Stournaras)

“Children are now coming into contact with money at a young age and, therefore, need to understand the mechanisms of the complex and intricate financial environment.” (from the introduction by the author, Professor of Finance at the University of Piraeus & President and Founder of the Institute of Financial Literacy, Nikolaos D. Philippas)
