Drilling bits, also known as core drills and drilling cutters, allow for the creation of holes in solid material (steel) without the need for pre-drilling. They are made from high-speed steel HSS. The holes made with a drilling bit do not require the removal of burrs, and their smoothness and accuracy are closer to that of reaming than drilling. Trepanning bits are intended for use with magnetic base drills. The use of a pilot guide is required during drilling, suitable for the type of bit.
