The iFi Audio ZEN DAC 3 proved to be an excellent addition to my audio system. I connected it via USB with my own quality Ugreen USB-C cable, which I preferred over the simple included USB-A cable, while for the connection to the amplifier I used a 0.75m Oehlbach RCA cable.

I use it in combination with the classic Onkyo A-8840 amplifier, the Yamaha EQ-550, and the Klipsch R-51M speakers I recently bought. The result is a clean, full, and particularly pleasant sound, with very good instrument separation, controlled bass, and plenty of detail without becoming tiring.

It was also tested with the excellent Sony MDR-V7, headphones that can truly reveal the quality of a source. The ZEN DAC 3 drove them very well, offering power, clarity, and a greater sense of space compared to the simple audio output of a computer. Vocals sound natural, the treble is clear, and the bass gains more body and better control.

The build quality is very good, operation is simple, and the USB connection is stable, without issues. It worked flawlessly both with the more vintage part of my system, such as the Onkyo and the Yamaha equalizer, and with the newer Klipsch.

It is not a cheap device, but in a well-put-together system the difference is clear. It is a substantial upgrade to the digital source and not just another component. An excellent choice for those who want to combine modern digital sound with quality classic hi-fi equipment.

Before I bought it, I compared it with five others of greater value but from an older era. I will simply say that this little thing is on another level... Be careful if you connect it to a tablet; it requires a power supply. Buy the USB Audio Pro

The best thing I have bought in terms of sound, if you have open back headphones with the xbass that is analog, it's the cherry on the cake
