The Yongnuo YN686EX-RT flash supports Canon E-TTL and E-TTL II metering and can operate as a master or remote unit via the 2.4 GHz wireless system compatible with Canon. It also supports optical remote operation with Canon and Nikon systems, as well as high-speed sync and first- or second-curtain sync.

The zoom head covers focal lengths of 20–200 mm and features a 14 mm wide-angle panel. It tilts from -7° to 90° and swivels 180° to the left and right for bounce lighting. The dedicated rechargeable lithium battery provides a 1.5-second recycle time at full power.
