Manufactured in 1944, the IS-2 (IS-122) was a modification of the IS-1. It features simple cast armor. Soviet elite heavy tank divisions extensively used the IS-2 in their assaults on the fortress cities of Budapest, Breslau, and Berlin. These vehicles had thick white stripes for quick recognition by other Soviet tank crews. This vehicle, a tank of the 7th Independent Heavy Tank Division, became famous in a photograph taken in front of the iconic Brandenburg Gate in the heart of Berlin.
