This is a glass surface on which a metal backing has been attached for magnets to stick. However, because the glass has some thickness, the classic "fridge" magnets do not stick, nor do those sold for other magnetic boards. Strong neodymium magnets are needed, which can be easily purchased even from Skroutz (the package contains four magnets), but any magnet cannot be used. Also, the glass does not have the same writing quality as a whiteboard, but it's okay. Aesthetically, it is very beautiful, and the above disadvantages are essentially the price to pay. If these issues do not particularly bother you, then go ahead and get it; it seems quite high quality. I, who want to use it as a decorative element as well, am quite satisfied.
