The term ringspun was coined due to the process used to make this type of cotton. The yarn created for ringspun cotton produces stronger and longer threads that are soft, exceptionally durable, and free from the coarse texture of typical raw cotton. The process of continuous spinning, twisting, and thinning of the cotton fibers yields long, soft yarns. Additionally, during this process, the yarns are compressed in a way that produces a very strong and durable material.
