Description

Sixty years since the era of Bobek. Exactly six decades after the legendary unbeaten championship of Panathinaikos, Belle Époque Publishing releases a collectible album dedicated to the invincible champions of 1964.

More than 300 rare photos, unknown stories, narratives from key players, unpublished documents, minutes from board meetings, newspaper clippings, and statistics make up this edition. The series of albums from the "Panathinaikos Encyclopedia" continues.

This time, the book focuses on a "green" success that marked Greek football and is forever etched in the identity of the Great Club. From the departure of the great Harry Game to the hiring of the mythical Stjepan Bobek. From the dissolution of the POK and the intense background of the times, to the construction of the mythical team that experienced not a single defeat.

From Papaiemmanouil's powerful shot in Thessaloniki against Aris, to the legendary header of Panakis at "Karaiskakis" on May 24, 1964. The moment when the flag of the 13th Gate landed in the hands of Zacharias Pitychoutis and proudly waved in the sky of Faliro.

The innovative ideas of Bobek, the application of 4-3-3 for the first time in Greece, the initial skepticism from journalists, and the eventual triumph of the fresh and modern against anything old and outdated, the way in which the sport changed and evolved, are explored in the 144 pages of the book.

The reader is mentally transported to the pitches of the '60s and watches how, step by step, the toughness and roughness of football back then gave way to a new era of technique and strategy.

The book is authored by Andreas Oikonomou, the writer of the album "Leoforos" and – among others – the books "We Scored Eight" and "Leoforos Iroon."
