Description

The protection of the environment at the international level is the evolution of a policy and historical-social journey that has been anything but smooth or predictable. As a result of fundamental changes in the perception of the necessity for environmental protection, International Environmental Law is the body of agreements and principles that reflects our collective effort to manage the most serious environmental problems of the Anthropocene, such as climate change, ozone depletion, and the mass extinction of wildlife, ocean pollution, etc.

International Environmental Law is one of the most interesting and developing areas of Public International Law. Only in the 1970s and 1980s did states begin to understand that oceans are polluted, that species of flora and fauna are diminishing, and that the environment now requires protection. International Environmental Law is a particularly timely field, and this is reflected in global news.

The book "International Environmental Law" is the result of a research effort that started from studying the sources of international environmental law to organize the entirety of the most fundamental issues particularly regarding the scope and intensity of the protection provided by Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs), in fields such as addressing climate change, global protection of cultural heritage, tackling pollution from ships, biodiversity protection, etc.

The work aims to serve as a handy tool for all kinds of practitioners of Environmental Law, whether at the international level, or at the European/regional, or even national level. It also constitutes, as structured, an organized piece of work for educational/research needs.
