The born fifty years ago Metapolitefsi seems like a riddle. Publicists disagree on when it expired, but also on how alive its "trusts" remain. Politicians from the two parties (PASOK, ND) that were born alongside it and dominated throughout – or almost – its duration criticize it as an overall detrimental period. Once, this was done only by the far-right.

Description

The born fifty years ago Metapolitefsi seems like a riddle. Publicists disagree on when it expired, but also on how alive its "trusts" remain. Politicians from the two parties (PASOK, ND) that were born alongside it and dominated throughout – or almost – its duration criticize it as an overall detrimental period. Once, this was done only by the far-right.

In reality, they excommunicate the radicalism that developed in society during the Metapolitefsi (mainly its early phase) and had multiple impacts. This excommunication also serves as a fig leaf, behind which they strive to hide the consequences of the choices of the economic elite and the dead ends of the country's production model.

Dionysis Eleftheratos examines the most significant political-social conflicts of the Metapolitefsi, mainly from its first and most vibrant period. He realizes how its radicalism influenced ideas and entertainment. He looks into newspaper circulations alongside political developments. He determines the position that the climate of the time gave to football, basketball, rock music, and cinema. Finally, he focuses on some classic indictments against the Metapolitefsi regarding the economy and labor issues.

The book sneaks into courtrooms, political meetings, "conclaves," demonstrations, strikes, police raid fields; into stadiums, cinemas, and concert halls. Its "sounds" are – also – multiple. The chants of rallies, the triumphant laughter of the LaRCO strikers, the soundtracks of Z and the state of siege, Rory Gallagher’s "solos" in Nea Filadelfeia and Joe Strummer’s at Kalimarmaro are heard.

  • Excellent work by Mr. Eleftheratos, I admit that it offered perspectives I had not explored, as well as laid the foundations for internal reflection. It acted as a trigger for personal development and gave me the opportunity, through social interaction, to explore a very interesting aspect. I will return in due course for any additions. Eleftheratos connecting people.
