The Christian roots of Smyrna are very deep; they date back to the apostolic times. During the times of persecutions, the Church of Smyrna showcased its martyrs. The most prominent of them is its heroic bishop, Saint Polycarp, the holy hieromartyr.

However, the Church of the Smyrnaeans produced saints and martyrs throughout its entire historical course. In the dark times of servitude to the Turks, the lands of Smyrna were stained with the blood of the new martyrs.

The martyric tradition of the unforgettable and greatly mourned city was sealed with the sacrifice of its last bishop, the martyred Metropolitan Chrysostomos.

With the joyful anniversary of the completion of fifty years (1974-2024) since the establishment of the Holy Metropolitanate of New Smyrna, which not only carries the name of Asia Minor Smyrna but is also, in a way, the heir to its spiritual wealth.

Its bishop-pastor brings to light and highlights the beloved lives and the struggles of the holy figures of Smyrna.
