The Venus Optics Laowa 25 mm f/2.8 Ultra Macro lens is a compact ultra macro lens designed for extremely close-up shots. It offers five times magnification, allowing the photography of miniature objects. The optical arrangement of the Laowa 25 mm f/2.8 Ultra Macro consists of 8 elements in 6 groups. Among the lenses is an element made of ultra-low dispersion glass, which is responsible for reducing chromatic aberration. The overall construction ensures images with high sharpness and accurately reproduced colors.

The aperture is adjustable in the range of f/2.8 - f/16, while the relatively short focal length for these lenses offers comfortable depth of field. The variable image magnification scale (2.5x - 5x) works exceptionally well when photographing objects of various sizes, such as insects, plants, or details of larger objects. The lens cannot be used for applications outside of macro photography.

The lens barrel is made entirely of metal. Separate adapters available allow for quick mounting of the lens on a tripod, and the built-in Arca-Swiss standard plate (38 mm) ensures wide compatibility with camera heads.
