The rich but also high-quality jurisprudential output that the Council of State, among Greek judicial bodies, and the European Court of Human Rights have exhibited in recent decades, particularly on cases with primary or incidental issues related to Ecclesiastical Law, has made it necessary to publish a modern, and as comprehensive as possible, work that addresses this field of our legal studies based on the most recent developments.

During the same period, an abundant bibliography, originating not only from the European but also from the Greek scientific community, comes to attract our optimistic interest for its theoretical contribution to the development of areas such as the protection of the right to religious freedom, the relations between state and church, the organization, administration and institutional function of ecclesiastical institutions, as well as the jurisdictional content of the five geo-ecclesiastical legal systems of the Greek territory.

The present volume attempts to operate within the framework defined by these new data, serving as a balanced aid both in theoretical cultivation and in the jurisprudential (applied) shaping of individual research directions of Ecclesiastical Law.
