After the Wars of the Roses between the houses of York and Lancaster, a period of peace has begun in England. However, the king's younger brother, Richard, is devising plans to eliminate the legitimate heirs and his opponents in order to seize the throne of England.
Thus, we observe the rise to power of a corrupt man and his brief reign, which is interrupted by a violent death.
“Richard is not merely a Machiavellian schemer, a stock ‘villain’ of Renaissance theatre, or a version of Vice, the personified Evil of medieval moralities. He is charismatic, intelligent, and charming, and undoubtedly one of Shakespeare's most complete characters,” as noted by Xenia Georgopoulou, Associate Professor of the Department of Theatre Studies at NKUA.
In this edition, for the sake of achieving the goals of adaptation by Andreas Flourakis, shifts or even additions and deletions are observed compared to the original English text, without, of course, affecting the essence of the text.
