Description

Description

The book serves as a systematic introduction to ethical philosophy. It introduces the fundamental ethical question "What is morally right for me to do?" and the main ethical theories that respond to this question (divine command theory, utilitarianism, Kantian deontology, virtue ethics, intuitionism, social contract theory, cultural relativism, egoism, subjectivism, sentimentalism, etc.).

All theories are evaluated based on their fundamental virtues and their problems, and the capability of each to resolve these issues is also examined. The presentation and evaluation of the theories are conducted as objectively as possible, leaving it up to the reader to determine their stance.

The book concludes with a chapter that presents, according to one interpretation, the moral anti-realism-skepticism of significant thinkers from the 19th century (Marx, Freud, Nietzsche, Darwin). Ultimately, in the epilogue, a brief discussion is made regarding the meta-philosophical consideration of whether the inquiry "What is morally right for me to do?" has a correct-objective answer that we can know.
