CLOVE OIL /Eugenia Caryophyllus Leaf Oil/
The natural clove oil is obtained from the buds and leaves of the evergreen clove tree, up to 20 m tall. Clove is mainly cultivated on the islands of Zanzibar, Pemba, and Madagascar.
The main active ingredient of the oil is eugenol, which has strong bactericidal and anesthetic properties. It is used in the treatment of rheumatism and upper respiratory tract infections. It stimulates and clears the mind. It has been used as an aphrodisiac.
Its characteristic aroma and composition make it useful as a natural repellent, especially for black flies.
