Everyone struggles at fifteen. Hector perhaps a bit more. Fighting against a repressive, hostile environment, Hector wonders what his place is in this world.
How does childhood meet adulthood, how can one build an identity that those around them do not recognize, what can family ultimately mean, how can art and stories be a lifeline in a world full of darkness.
Through the isolation and tensions of a summer in the village, through the anger at an invader and a household in disarray, Hector embarks on a journey through his creativity and imagination, having an unexpected ally by his side, to find the tools to support himself and what he loves.
In order to exist, someone must see me; someone must recognize my existence. Without "you," there is no "I."
—Lyo Kalovyrnas, from the introduction
