Spectrum HIPS-X filament is used as a support material for ABS prints on FDM/FFF printers, making it easier to create complex prints. Once printing is complete, the supports dissolve in a citric acid solution (D-limonene). It can also be used as a primary material for parts with less shrinkage than ABS.

Printed objects have a matte surface, and the material can be machined using processes such as drilling, turning, milling, and grinding. Applications include impact-resistant parts, components that absorb and dissipate energy, and prototypes of designed products and semi-finished products.
