However, for a material to be considered compostable, it must decompose within a specific time frame, usually 90 days, to ensure that the processing time of bio-waste and bags is consistent. It is important that bags labeled as compostable are certified according to EN13432 by an independent body.
Why can't we use a regular plastic bag for bio-waste recycling? Regular plastic bags do not decompose in industrial composters and therefore contaminate the composting process. This means that the compost created cannot be used.
Will compostable bags dissolve in the natural environment? Disposing of all types of bags in the marine or terrestrial environment is unacceptable and should not be done. Compostable bags decompose only in the presence of moisture, air, and microorganisms, i.e., in a controlled composting environment.
How to store GreenAware bags? For best use of GreenAware compostable bags, store them in a cool and dry place.
Will compostable bags start to decompose in the bin? Compostable bags are designed to last long enough to hold waste inside and begin the decomposition process in the composter. If the bin is emptied regularly, i.e., weekly or every two weeks, the bags will not lose their integrity.
Can you keep other trash in GreenAware bags? Yes, all waste can be placed in GreenAware bags. However, such bags should not go into organic waste.
