What is the difference between biodegradable and compostable? These terms refer to material of natural origin that breaks down into water, carbon dioxide, and organic matter. A compostable material must generally break down within 90 days and must be certified according to EN13432.

Disposing of any type of bags in a marine or terrestrial environment is litter and should not be done. Compostable bags only break down in a controlled composting environment.

To make the most of compostable bags, store them in a cool, dry place. The labeling indicates that the bag cannot be sent to organic waste when the contents are not compostable.
