After a wave of immigration, Japan has become an explosive mix of people and cultures, shaken by the protests of xenophobic extremists who are dissatisfied with the new situation. Riko, a daring girl who constantly changes jobs, rides her scooter into one of these protests when she sees a boy at risk of being hit by a truck. Riko manages to push him out of the way, and in the hours that follow, she takes on the responsibility of caring for the boy, named Eito.

Riko takes Eito for a bowl of ramen, but just as they are about to start eating, Eito comes under fire from a distant army sniper.
