Sophocles is the second in the trio of the great poets of ancient Greek dramatic poetry. In his works, he presents idealized characters who serve as models for human behavior. The plot of his works is highly technical, and the portrayal of the characters is vivid and lively. From his rich oeuvre, seven tragedies have been preserved: "Ajax," "Antigone," "Electra," "Oedipus Rex," "Trachiniae," "Philoctetes," and "Oedipus at Colonus."
The overall editing of the volume was carried out under the supervision of the philologist Th.G. Mavropoulos and includes: a preface by the publisher Konstantinos Zitros, an introduction by the author to ancient Greek dramatic poetry and the poet, the ancient Greek text, its translation, philological comments on the work, an analysis of the work, topics - questions for further study of the text, an anthology of the work, bibliography related to the work, and an index of terms and names.
