Special Doulton Nitrate filter for the reduction of Nitrate salts NO3. It contains food-grade anionic resin certified by WRAS for reducing nitrate salts in water. The Doulton Nitrate is capable of reducing nitrate levels even to 0mg/lt. This depends on the initial nitrate levels in the water. It is advisable to replace the filter if nitrate levels increase after the filter to values above 10mg/lt. Typically, for nitrate levels in Greece, it is recommended to change the filter every 4 to 6 months depending, of course, on the initial values and consumption.

Nitrate salts as well as nitrogen fertilizers come from agriculture as their excessive use has led them to the groundwater. When nitrate salts are consumed by the human body, a small percentage is converted into nitrite salts which create nitrosamine, one of the strongest carcinogenic compounds. They also cause the conversion of hemoglobin to methemoglobin, which does not adequately transport oxygen to our body.

It should be noted that the American legislation for nitrate content in water is 10mg/lt while in Greece the limit is 50mg/lt. In any case, it is good to have a water analysis done.
