This work presents for the first time, using a unified method, all significant legislative changes concerning the individual and collective rights of LGBTQI+ individuals in Greece and the European and international arena, as shaped in recent decades.
Starting with the necessary introduction, as well as the presentation of terminology and the new legislative terms and definitions introduced by regulations for LGBTQI+ rights and freedoms, this book aims to compile all the legal information currently in force regarding the full range of various cases focused on sexual orientation, gender identity, expression, and gender characteristics of individuals and collectives in the modern world.
Especially in the first decades of the 21st century, Greek legislative output has included rules concerning the protection of individuals from unfair discrimination in the fields of employment, service provision, health, and education, has standardized hate and prejudice crimes, and has organized new self-determination processes, such as the legal recognition of gender identity, the establishment of civil partnerships and marriage, as well as the recognition of parenthood for LGBTQI+ individuals and couples.
This material includes decisions from national, European, and international bodies that have shaped rules across the full spectrum of the above issues, including the recognition of asylum and subsidiary international protection for LGBTQI+ refugees. Distinct chapters of the book include regulations for freedom of expression and public assembly, for the protection of personal data, as well as for health and protection from "conversion practices" and unfair medical acts.
The entirety of this legal material is classified into the ten chapters of this book, which also attempts a theoretical processing that allows for the extraction of specific conclusions and the highlighting of general principles that govern the law of LGBTQI+ rights and freedoms.
This is a reference work prepared by a practicing lawyer, aimed at including, among other things, unpublished judicial decisions from Greek courts in cases he has handled, as well as those of other justice collaborators, during the decades that span the emergence of this new body of knowledge, which tends to acquire legal scientific autonomy.
