A Woman of No Importance is a play by the Irish author Oscar Wilde. It was first presented in 1893 at the Haymarket Theatre in London and published the same year.
It is a sharp dark comedy and, like the author's other social plays, it satirizes the English upper class in the late 19th century.
The plot of the play revolves around a woman, a single mother with a grown son, who the world believes to be a widow. In a strange turn of events, her son is offered an outstanding position by his father, a man without principles. The young man must choose whether to accept the position offered by his father or remain loyal to his mother who raised him alone.
