The Skull King board game by Grandpa Beck's Games is a strategy game based on trick-taking. Each round, players simultaneously bid on how many tricks they think they will win, revealing the number with their fingers or showing a closed fist for a bid of zero. To score points, they must win exactly the number of tricks they bid; winning more or fewer tricks scores no points.

The game lasts 10 rounds. In each round, each player is dealt as many cards as the number of the round, from a 66-card deck featuring escape cards, four suits numbered 1–13, pirate cards, the Tigress card, and the Pirate King.
