Description

Description

The ZTE U50 is a mobile router, a device to which other devices (e.g. computer, mobile phone, television) connect wirelessly, and through which they are provided internet access. It receives internet access via the built-in modem and uses the mobile network by installing a SIM card. The SIM card must have an active connection with a data package.

This device also functions as a portable hotspot, meaning it can operate anywhere as it has a built-in battery.

It connects to the 5G network, which offers significantly higher speeds than 4G. For the device to operate at this speed, there must also be corresponding coverage from the mobile network in your area.
It is Wi‑Fi 6 generation, the most modern Wi-Fi standard that offers speeds up to 40% higher than Wi-Fi 5. It coordinates communication with connected devices so they consume less battery and works better in environments with many Wi-Fi devices. Ideal for homes with many smart devices. It transmits a signal on one frequency, 2.4GHz, which offers lower speed than those that transmit on 2 (dual) or 3 (tri band) frequencies. The 2.4GHz frequency is the most widespread and has great range.

The device has the capability to configure a VPN (Virtual Private Network) so that traffic from all devices on our network passes through it. The VPN acts as an intermediary between us and the rest of the internet, giving us the ability to appear as if we are geographically located in another country, and the pages we visit see the VPN address as the visitor, not our own. This provides us with anonymity and access to geographically restricted content. VPN services are usually subscription-based and paid.

I have had it for 2 weeks.
My previous one was a Huawei 4g and I had it for 5 years.
I tried a Cosmote data sim and a Vodafone sim, it automatically received the apn settings from both providers.
I notice that the ZTE heats up, but I don't know if that's okay or a problem, let me know your opinions if you know.... With the Huawei I only felt such temperatures in the summer.
It has a setting for the wifi range; at the lowest range, the battery lasts longer and the temperature is lower.
It can work without a battery.
I will use it with a Vodafone card because in the areas where I move around, Cosmote is very slow.

Expensive indeed, but there aren't any cheaper 5G options.

I am absolutely satisfied, I have seen real download speeds of 780 Mb/s on my phone with Cosmote and Nova networks.

The battery lasts quite a while, I have reached 7 hours and it still had battery left.

In the attached image you can see that the WiFi connection is Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), the band is 5 GHz, the encryption is WPA 3, and the WiFi connection speed reaches 1.2 Gbit/s
