If you like retro, it's simply awesome. The clicky buttons, although they annoy those next to you, are very nice for typing. The extra joystick/buttons in this version I found unnecessary, but I wanted the Commodore style.

Very good construction, fantastic keycaps that remind me of the feel of the C-64. The extra peripherals (2 buttons and 1 joystick) are welcome although a bit clumsy with their wires connecting to the keyboard. The only somewhat negative aspect, although it can be fixed quite easily and cheaply (for a custom keyboard at least, which isn't the cheapest hobby...) are the switches.
Kailh Box White clicky switches. Admittedly very fun for 1-2 days but for daily use... no. Such a loud sound leads to divorce, job loss, murder by a roommate. The good thing is that the keyboard is hot-swappable so changing the switches is very easy. I chose the Leobog crystal ice (about 30-35 euros from Aliexpress for 100) which are light tactile switches. The result is amazing. At 155 euros that it cost me including switches, it's not exactly cheap but the final result is better than many more expensive keyboards that I have tried.
From the end of 2024, 8bitdo now also has full-size models for those who can't live without a numpad.

By far the best keyboard I have ever had the chance to use.

The obvious allure it has is the design: the feel of the keys (both in touch and sound), the colors, the construction have the scent of the legendary c64 to an incredible degree! It is one of those times when it is absolutely true that you have to hold it in your hands to believe it! It is a real gem...

Even without the vintage factor, however, it is a very capable mechanical keyboard: clicky (the retro design extends even to this point), incredible for typing, immediate response whether with a 2.4 connection or with a cable (Bluetooth has a negligible delay). The super buttons and the joystick will be a joy for those who play retro games, but since they can be programmed as desired, they are incredibly useful (I have set up an entire profile with shortcuts for Photoshop).

If there is one downside, it is in the accompanying software (Ultimate Software v2). Unstable, with practically zero documentation and prone to errors. Useful information: holding down the 3 keys next to the volume knob for 5-10 seconds performs a hard reset on the keyboard and any errors in the program disappear!

One detail: even 8bitDo itself does not classify it as a gaming keyboard and I assume that due to the switches that have been chosen (kailh box white V2) instead of linear red, it may not be the best choice for hardcore/competitive games. Yes, the switches can be changed, but it is yet another expense.
