Description

The publication of the book "Budgeting – reporting - cash flow - cash management" by Astbooks aimed to comprehensively cover the needs of a modern entity's accountant in matters of financial analysis and management accounting, combined with the publication related to "Modern Costing and Greek Accounting Standards." In any case, the need for preparing and monitoring budgets by all businesses, regardless of size, is indisputable, without significantly altering the related processes over the years.

The accountant who will deal with budgeting and financial analysis issues must primarily have the appropriate education and experience, and secondarily the relevant updates. For this reason, this work contains detailed examples and applications that are timelessly useful, aiming for a deep understanding by the reader of the necessary budgeting techniques.

Regarding the structure of the book, the following points are highlighted: Chapter 1 is very important for the colleague to organize for the first time or to evaluate the existing budgeting system of an entity, assessing the available time in conjunction with the benefits of the process. The budgeting techniques and consequently cash planning, along with other more practical issues, will follow.

It is clear that the choice of the budgeting and cash flow - cash management process requires the judgment and experience of the executives involved and cannot be standardized in an absolute way. For this reason, the first chapter contains those elements that, along with the knowledge of the entity's subject matter, will help the colleague participating in the organization of the processes.

In Chapters 2 and 3, with examples and applications, we will develop the techniques for drafting the revenue and expense budget for each operation separately. Conversely, we will describe the correlation of each expense with the operations and departments of a business. From the individual revenues and expenses, the overall budget of the entity will emerge.

In Chapters 4 and 5, a complete and detailed application of what has been discussed in the previous chapters follows, initially emphasizing the budgeting process applied by a small or medium-sized entity over a period (fiscal year). At each phase of the process, we present the conclusions derived from the data that have been formed.

Once the budgeting process is completed, we continue with the financial analysis of the business, introducing the concepts of "break-even point" and "sensitivity analysis." In Chapter 6, after drafting the budgetary results (p&l budget) and with the help of the defined financial ratios, the balance sheet and cash flows are also budgeted. Subsequently, the importance of financial analysis and what has been mentioned in the previous chapters is highlighted, along with their application to a very small entity.

In the new Chapter 7, a detailed application is presented where future cash flows are calculated in detail and on a monthly basis using the direct method. Additionally, the role of the cash manager (treasurer), which is often assigned to the supervising accountant in small and medium enterprises, is described.

In Chapter 8, concise instructions are provided to the reader preparing a budget for the first time, so they can familiarize themselves more easily with the process. During usage, they can seek more detailed instructions in the previous chapters. Furthermore, the new edition added more explanations regarding the personnel budget and included additions on other topics, the most significant perhaps being the addition of a detailed application for a law firm. The financial analysis of this entity is representative of the majority of service-providing companies.
