Description

In recent years, the far right has shifted from the margins to the center of political life in the West. With a leading role in European governments, from the Scandinavian North to Italy, it is ambitiously contesting the French presidency following the shock of the European elections in June 2024.

How did we get here, and how can this gray wave be halted? In his new book, Petros Papakonstantinou attempts to guide us through the transformations and roles played by neo-fascism in post-war Europe, as well as in Trump's America, Bolsonaro's Brazil, Milei's Argentina, and the tragedies of Ukraine and Gaza.

The author's journey through 32 countries and across eight decades supports two uncomfortable truths for some: that the far right would not have reached where it is without the complicity of the "Extreme Center"; and that it cannot be marginalized without overturning the dystopian social reality that subjugates the citizen's consciousness to the animal instinct for the survival of the strongest.
