Kikuyu grass seeds create a dense lawn that spreads quickly through stolons and rhizomes. This perennial, warm-season grass is adapted to warm climates and tolerates heat, drought, moderate salinity, foot traffic, and wear. It can be used in gardens, parks, sports fields, coastal areas, and on slopes, while its root system helps hold the soil in place and limit erosion.
Sow from April to September, when the soil temperature is above 20 °C. Growth slows during cold winter months, and the grass may temporarily turn yellow before recovering in spring. After sowing, water lightly and frequently until the seeds germinate and the lawn is established; thereafter, water less often but deeply. Regular mowing to 2.5–5 cm encourages dense growth and limits spreading. The grass responds well to nitrogen fertilization during periods of vigorous growth.
