Description

He is Socrates Bumpa. She is Katerina Holeva, two years younger than him. They have been engaged since they were young children through an old custom of the Vlachs, that of "Life." They grow up for each other without coexisting, and when they reach an age where they understand some things, the ghost of love appears...

It is the years 1950-1970, in Albania. When the last migratory Vlachs of that place and beyond, those with houses on the backs of mules, of tents and straw huts, always in motion, behind their sheep, whether in the summer in the mountainous areas of Korça, or in the winter at the southernmost point of the country, must now settle in a specific place and begin to live an urban life.

The "Last Nomads" is a story about love and humanity, for a people who refuse to die, who transcend space and time, and travel to every reader, no matter what country they are from, or who they are.

"Socrates was very afraid of the dead, but from that day he was left alone with his mother, grandmother, and one of the deceased, he became a young man. This was not a coincidence, for he had long been planning to stay with them. The little ones were not allowed to hear how a dead person communicates with a living one. It was true that he was afraid, but at the same time, he burned with the desire to hear how 'they' spoke. Curiosity had been planted in his mind by the older ones who around the fire talked about the deceased who had visited his mother this time. The visits of the dead were so frequent and the stories about them so many, that Socrates knew better the habits and peculiarities of those who had passed away from this vain world than the peculiarities and difficulties of the living."
