The game is based on placing combinations of dice created by the player on the table. These combinations can be either runs or sets. A run consists of at least three dice with consecutive numbers in one color, while a set is three or four dice with the same number in different colors. The goal of the game is to place all the dice from the player's rack as quickly as possible. The player who accomplishes this first wins. The other players count the remaining points on their racks and record them as negative points. The winner records the total points of the other players as positive points. The game can be played with or without a time limit.
The simple rules and dynamic flow make "Rummikub" one of the favorite family games in many countries.
"Rummikub" won the Game of the Year title in 1980 in Germany.
