The game is based on placing shapes made from dice on the table, created by the player. These can be either sequences or groups. A sequence consists of at least three dice with consecutive numbers in one color, while a group includes three or four dice with the same number in different colors.
The objective of the game is to place all the dice from the player's board as quickly as possible. The player who achieves this first wins. The other players count the points remaining on their boards and record them as negative points. The winner records the total points remaining on the other players' boards as positive points. The game can be played with or without a time limit.
"Rummikub" won the Game of the Year award in 1980 in Germany.
