The 3M Scotch N23 self-amalgamating insulating tape is designed to restore insulation on low- and medium-voltage cables. It is made of ethylene propylene rubber and contains no adhesive. When tightly wrapped under tension, it amalgamates and, when stretched to twice its length, forms a homogeneous, bubble-free layer that adheres closely to the surface.
It is used for low- and medium-voltage cable joints, repairing cable jackets, providing corrosion protection for metal pipes, and sealing. It is resistant to moisture, ageing, ultraviolet radiation, ozone, and weathering, and has very good thermal conductivity.
