Hayman drums were introduced in the late 1960s, manufactured by an English company. The idea was to create a line of drums to share in the success of the large American companies of the time. The company initially started with the name George Hayman on the label and later simplified it to Hayman in the following years.

The secret of the sound of Hayman drums lay in the inner layer. This was called Vibrasonic, but it was simply a thick, sprayed layer based on regular white polyurethane paint. Its function was to reinforce the drum surface, allowing the sound to bounce inside and produce more "crack".
