The liturgical acts are not a human initiative, but the continuation of the redemptive work of God on earth in Christ, through the Holy Spirit.

The roots of Christian worship largely trace back to Judaism, with the structure of the Word service, the Hours, our Eucharistic prayers, etc. having their foundations in the models of Jewish liturgical tradition.

As in Judaism and other religions, in Christianity, worship is expressed through a specific liturgical Typicon, which is a set of instructions and regulations for the manner and timing of the sacred acts to be performed, without the liturgical event being limited to a simple ceremony, but rather constituting the official proclamation of the faith of the Church, in accordance with Fr. George Florovsky.
