  • I have an older model, which has the black mustache or base in front. This gives the machine the ability to cut vertically like a jigsaw, and in fact with better results than a jigsaw, because the blade is wider and the cut comes out straighter. This is for straight cuts. For curves, you will use the small blade and it loses a bit. Compared to the jigsaw, it cannot cut at an angle, as some can. It does not have a moving base. But for vertical cuts, it will give you good results. It can also be used as a saw, replacing the hand saw. I cut up frames from 4 doors, it was a bit slower compared to a chainsaw but it did the job. Additionally, apart from the large blade you see, it also takes 2 small blades, one for wood and one for metal. I used the blade for metal on a soft iron pipe and it did well, to the point that I was impressed. For plumbers who cut plastic or metal pipes, it is a useful tool.

Now this model compared to the older one seems to take different blades, which are relatively hard to find. For the older model, it is easier to find them. The blades come either with a Black & Decker code or with a Stanley parent company code. I did not attempt to fit the blades of the new model to the old one and vice versa. It is noted that the blades that both the old and new model take have their own fitting. They do not take blades from other commercial jigsaws.

The codes for the blades are:
Black & Decker X29962 for plastic or wood, the large one for straight cutting
Black & Decker X29972 for wood, the small one, if you want to cut curves and vertically, but it will lose a bit.
Black & Decker X29982 for metal
Black & Decker X29992 set of all three above.

    Stanley's are:
STANLEY STA29962 for plastic or wood, the large one
Stanley Black & Decker STA29972 for wood, the small one, if you want to cut curves and vertically, but it will lose a bit.
Stanley Black & Decker STA29982 for metal
Stanley Black & Decker STA29992 set of all three above.
