In the fifth book of the medieval mystery series "The Cases of Royal Judge Oldrich of Chlum," titled "The Symbol of Judas," an unprecedented crime is committed at Prague Castle.
One night, in the old palace, Chief Justice Dobrej is found murdered with a stiletto featuring satanic symbols stabbed into his body. King Premysl II Otakar does not trust his courtiers, and thus assigns the investigation to the young Oldrich of Chlum.
This, of course, will displease the local officials, especially as rumors begin to circulate that the king intends to appoint Oldrich to the prominent position of regional judge of Prague. Consequently, the Count of Prague and the court marshal take matters into their own hands and implicate the nephew of the murdered chief justice, Kristan.
The king condemns the young man to death; however, Oldrich of Chlum maintains his doubts, as it turns out that there is a missing document titled "Judas."
