This educational manual was prepared with respect to tradition to address immediate educational needs and primarily targets the students of the Theological School of the Department of Pastoral Theology.
The author is based on the Elementary Teaching of Church Music from the Music Committee of 1883 but has supplemented this with elements from other writings, both old and new. His desire is to make a substantial contribution to the effective study of ancestral Byzantine Church Music on behalf of the students.
The teaching of Church Music has a fundamental and sacred purpose: to provide students with all the necessary elements for an experiential participation in the liturgical life of the Church, of which they are living members. It also aims to provide rich resources for the comprehensive and inclusive teaching of the Orthodox religious curriculum in Greek schools, as well as in the schools of the global Orthodox Hellenism.
