Hayman drums were introduced in the late 1960s and were manufactured by an English maker. The idea was to create a range of drums that would share the success of the major American companies of the time. The company started with the name George Hayman on the label and later simplified it to just Hayman in the following years.

The secret of the sound of Hayman drums lay in the internal layer. It was called Vibrasonic, but it was simply a thick, sprayed-on layer based on common white polyurethane paint. Its function was to enhance the surface of the drum, allowing the sound to bounce inside and provide more "crack".
