The scientific name of the herb is ARBUTUS uvedo (Common Arbutus). It belongs to the family Ericaceae. In our country, we encounter the Common Arbutus and the Wild Strawberry Tree. The strawberry tree grows in the hard-leaved, evergreen formations of Greece known as maquis.
It is a shrub that produces the strawberries, which are sweet when ripe. Usually, it reaches a height of 3 meters, while cultivated species can reach up to 10 meters. Its leaves are persistent, lanceolate, and green on the upper surface. The flowers of the plant are small, white, and droop downward.
The strawberry tree has been known since ancient times and was used for its hemostatic properties. It is used to produce strawberry tree honey, which is known for its bitter taste.
Properties:

- The young leaves are astringent and help with hemoptysis and uterine bleeding.
- Suitable for gargling in case of sore throat.

Usage: It is prepared as an infusion. Add a teaspoon of dried herb to a cup of water and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Strain and drink up to three times a day.
