I got the console from a gift voucher that was given due to the purchase of the 65" S95D Samsung OLED. I had the slim and I was very satisfied! The games I had on the slim I played on the new OLED TV (the previous one was QLED) and there was a difference in the graphics. But when I set up the Pro with VRR 120fps on the same games, there really was a big difference in the graphics, the image, how clear it was, the colors, and especially the fps! Specifically, the otherwise unremarkable... FC26 has much better graphics, colors, a very clear image without stuttering during the fast transitions of the game, and stable at 60fps. BF6 has amazing graphics overall and at 120fps, not stable, it drops to 90 in some cases. F1 25 the same at 120fps, Spider-Man 120fps, Gran Turismo 120fps, Indiana Jones good graphics, could be better... at 60fps. There are also other games at 120fps with amazing graphics that I haven't managed to play yet, I have the Plus subscription and Sony gives me some... Games for 2-hour trials. As a console, it's compact and quite silent even in heavy games after a while. The main thing for me is the 2TB storage space is just right because the games on the Pro are large. The price is a bit high, if I didn't have the gift voucher I wouldn't have bothered because I had the slim. Personally, it's worth the purchase for someone, as long as they have a very powerful TV or monitor, that's how these things go... So you can enjoy gaming on this console. The fps make the big difference, of course the graphics too. The choice is yours, if you have the slim, think about it carefully...

The PS5 Pro is a more powerful and expensive version of the PS5, with advantages and disadvantages.
-It has more power than the regular PS5 and this is evident in most games, which look and run better after patches. If you are interested in things like 8K, Ray Tracing, ML upscale, and 120 fps, the PS5 Pro is for you. I would also recommend it as a must-buy for those who have PSVR2, as it runs most VR games significantly better than the regular PS5, which often seems to struggle.
-On the negative side is the hit or miss status of PSSR, especially at the beginning when there were games where the upgrade to Pro made them look considerably worse (e.g., Silent Hill 2) than on the regular PS5. Another negative is the removal of the excellent vertical stand from the regular PS5, which now costs €30 to buy separately, and in the box, they include some silly plastic feet that are not worth mentioning and break easily.
-Finally, as a neutral point, I mention the downgrade of the Blu Ray optical drive with its removal from the console as a standard feature, but at least it is available as an optional purchase. I recommend it as it is worth it in the long run and you don't lose your disc collection.

In conclusion, the PS5 Pro is aimed at those who want something extra in horsepower without having to buy a powerful gaming PC costing €1,200+.

***Edit 18/04/2026: A few weeks ago, the updated version of PSSR was released. The difference in upscaling quality is night and day; whereas games were sometimes worse than on the regular PS5, now the PS5 Pro directly competes with Nvidia's DLSS 4 and AMD's FSR Redstone on PC. Additionally, no patches are required for old games; the console has a system-level toggle to apply the new PSSR to all games that had the 1st generation PSSR. Finally, the PS5 Pro has a clear advantage over the regular PS5, justifying the higher price.

The truth is that I was very hesitant about this particular purchase as the price is prohibitive for many people. After several months of use and about 300 hours of active gaming, I will say the machine runs excellently in some games, the graphics are better than the regular PS5, in some you don't see anything so exceptionally different. The screen loading is quite faster than the regular one, the technologies it has are certainly a good card, and as has already leaked, the first major technical update is coming where we will supposedly see big changes in the graphics of existing games, but that will be seen in time. In conclusion, it is a faster console with double the storage space, which for me is very important, with technologies that may be a big plus in the future. If someone deserves to get it if they don't have a PS5 at all or to replace their old one with this, I would say it requires a lot of thought as the differences are not that big. Now, if despite that, you want something noticeably faster with better graphics in some games and certainly better FPS and to have a lot of space, then you weigh things and act accordingly. It should be noted that anyone who intends to get the corresponding results should also have the corresponding screen - TV with the respective technologies, which also have an extra cost, but the same applies to the regular PS5. Finally, comparison with PC is pointless, they are two different things with different experiences and different gaming. Many have made similar comparisons and there are many videos. In the Greek market, something equivalent costs about without any peripherals close to 1000 euros.

Disclaimer: This is my first console after the legendary PS2 and this review comes from a PC gamer.

Performance - cost ratio:
The PS5 Pro has amazing performance as its graphics card is between the 6800XT and RTX 3070 (on paper, because in practice the console has always excelled in real performance due to game optimization for consoles compared to PC ports).

Some say that with €800 they can build a gaming PC that is the same or even better than the PS5 Pro... To these gentlemen, I would say that on one hand, €800 MAY not be enough for the combination of graphics card - processor, and on the other hand, that PC building has risks and parameters that they can't even imagine, and it has happened to more experienced people to struggle for weeks or even months trying to find solutions to hardware or software problems, and they will definitely find it tough experimenting with their first computer, which will also cost 2 salaries...

As for the rest (add a 2TB SSD, add a good motherboard with wifi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3, add a good Gold efficiency power supply, 32GB RAM, add a case that "looks good" and is not terrible in capacity and cooling, and we are already at €1300 at least with a Manli card, meaning good luck with that, and without a custom CPU cooler or any other extras someone might want. Objectively, to build something as I would like without cutting corners and considering the visual aspect, I estimate it would cost me around €1600 personally, and I’m still only talking about the central unit and not about a keyboard, mouse, and monitor that someone might need if they don’t have them.

And let’s not kid ourselves, no one is going to spend that much money to play with a 1080p - 60Hz monitor and bargain peripherals... For a decent setup with a good 1440p - 144Hz (at least) monitor, and satisfactory peripherals, prepare another €500.

It is very likely that the cost will reach much higher, especially if we add shipping and assembly costs because not everyone knows how to assemble computers and install an operating system.

In short, even at €800 it is an incredible value for money compared to the equivalent in performance PC, and that is also the reason why this time I chose to try a console instead of building a computer.

Compared to the old PS5: many technological upgrades, particularly impressive is the frame generation, we just have to see how future games will utilize it.

We lose the disc reader, which personally doesn’t bother me because I don’t have physical copies, but if I did, I would buy it extra for €130.

Something additional for those who don’t know. Frame generation is not yet utilized by any game because simply the current games do not have the infrastructure. For frame generation to be utilized, developers will need to start from scratch, which may be unlikely. The difference will be seen in the new games that are already in production and will be created around frame generation. Everything will show in GTA VI. Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Pro at 60 fps and the old one at 30 fps.

For anyone who already has a PS5, the upgrade probably isn't worth it, but for those who are stuck with a PS4 or don’t have a console and don’t want to spend a fortune on a new computer since their 5-year-old computer is outdated, it is a very good solution.

Finally, I don’t understand why some feel compelled to get the Pro and are dissatisfied. If you are satisfied with the PS5, stick with the PS5 and let anyone who wants the Pro get the Pro.

I own the original (2020) and the Pro. I will rate the machine for NEW owners. The old ones read this but in summary, you generally do not need to upgrade. And you who want it only for free games like Fortnite, Call of Duty Warzone, etc., really don't buy it; I would say you might as well go for a PS4.

In general, this is an upgrade of the existing generation and not a new generation, but I believe this is the console that should have been available on the shelves from the very beginning. I have the impression that this was really the console, but if they hadn't released the PS5 first at 500, no one would buy the PS5 Pro at 800, and they would remain on the shelf with the main consumer choice being the PS4 Pro. Therefore, yes, I believe the PS6 will definitely go for 800 euros without a Disc Drive. The external and peripheral elements of the console at purchase remain of the same quality and quantity with 1 HDMI, 1 controller just like the original console, with the difference that the console DOES NOT HAVE A DISC DRIVE on it but can be purchased separately. I do not consider the lack of a stand.

But let's get to the point.

Positives:
- It offers connectivity for both PS4 and PS5 games with minor visual upgrades on the first and more stable framerates on the second, plus around 50 games on PS4 Pro have received special free patches to run better (see https://blog.playstation.com/2024/11/04/ps5-pro-50-enhanced-games-available-at-launch-november-7/)
- Some older games have not been left behind and have been upgraded, but you may need to pay 10 euros.
- You have a range of 12-year-old games plus some releases from older consoles PS1, PS2 & PSP that will gradually enrich the library.
- There are not 2 TB free, but less, not dramatically less. Nevertheless, thankfully they included so much due to the digital-only nature of it.
- The specs correspond to a PC around 1000 euros, so for someone who cannot or does not want to mess around, it is a quick and easy solution for quite good quality graphics.
- The remote control is comfortable and quite convenient.
- With a subscription that is around ~70 for the basic plan that gives 3 games per month and they remain as long as you keep the subscription active, and around ~150 for the final tier that offers the first subscription ~200 games that change frequently, it makes it quite an interesting entertainment center without wasting money on extra games without the fear of "maintaining" the medium.
- Quite quiet compared to a PC of the same quality.
- Since games are usually made first on console and then on PC, it is a better medium to get slightly better visuals in terms of performance/price.

Negatives:
- The price for a console primarily aimed at kids and generally the living room at 800 euros is quite prohibitive, especially when the previous generation was at 450 euros!
- To play discs, you need to shell out another 130 euros for the reading unit.*
- It is tall, although quite slim, so be careful where you place it due to its height, or width if you lay it horizontally.
- You won't find many exclusives, even though we are in the middle of the generation from its predecessor, and many of them are now also coming to PC after a short period.
- It consumes around 400 watts, which is quite a bit, but I don't consider it terribly negative; it just needed to be mentioned for other consumers, like those in RVs.
- Games cost 80 euros, and most of them you will find on sale for around 40 euros at best.

The rest remains generally known, such as a nice navigation menu, quick switching between games, and the SSD has really helped a lot with loading times. A subscription is not mandatory, but you need it for online gaming. For me, it represents a worthwhile solution in terms of price-performance, as I expect it to last as a cross-gen with the PS6 console, giving around 10 years of life compared to a PC, which would definitely require upgrades within 5 years to achieve the same visuals. The price is not good, and the amount of exclusives is a bit disappointing, but you will find games with good graphics. It also supports multimedia like Netflix, YouTube, etc. You may stone me, but I don't consider the lack of a disc drive to be something radically problematic, as games are evolving, and we have already reached double-layer Blu-rays that provide ~60GB of storage each, so something like this was needed, especially since installation is incredibly slower than today's internet speeds. BUT that doesn't mean I want them to stop making discs; let them produce them, and whoever wants to can buy them and install one game with 15 discs, just like we used to do with floppy disks in the past. Of course, all-digital doesn't have problems as much functionally as it does ethically. Therefore, if you already own a PS5 console, you don't need an upgrade, while if you own a PS4 or PS4 Pro, you could say that now we have entered the PS5 era and consider upgrading.
