The Norwegian ambassador in Thailand is found dead in a brothel in Bangkok. Due to his close friendship with the Prime Minister of Norway, they want to avoid the scandal at all costs in Oslo. Blind to the drunkenness, Harry Hole will board a plane to Bangkok with clear instructions: to "cover up" the case or, if that is not possible, to do as little as possible.
