Enchanting images from the temperate forests of Ireland combine with powerful writing about nature in a stunning journey into the wilderness, by the award-winning author of "An Irish Atlantic Rainforest." In 2023, environmentalist and "rewilder" Eoghan Daltun traveled the length and breadth of Ireland, photographing areas with temperate forests, aiming to highlight their beauty and immense ecological value, as well as to document, in almost all cases, their state of decline.
The resulting collection of stunning images, combined with insightful writing about nature, captures this exploration, starting from the author's thriving wild forest, Bofickil on the Beara Peninsula, in West Cork, and passing through the four provinces of Ireland - places such as Killarney National Park in Kerry, The Gearagh in Cork, The Burren in Clare, Old Head Wood in County Mayo, Glenveagh National Park in Donegal, Correl Glen and Cladagh Glen in County Fermanagh, and the well-known Glendalough landscape in Wicklow.
From close-ups to wide-angle shots, rich images of forests and landscapes are captured, incredibly rich in natural flora and fauna, offering us a deep insight into rare and invaluable ecosystem barriers that we still have but are rapidly losing, along with a dynamic prompt for how this could easily change for the better.
