The Focke-Wulf Fw-190 is a German, single-engine, all-metal fighter aircraft with an enclosed cockpit designed as a low-wing from World War II. Pilots considered the Fw-190 a better aircraft than the Messerschmitt Bf-109. An independent low-wing with a functional covering Fw-190 was ordered by the Luftfahrtministerium and assembled in the fall of 1937. Kurt Tank submitted two propulsion proposals - the first with a Daimler-Benz DB 601 liquid-cooled engine and the second with the new BMW 139 radial engine. The second was chosen, and the work began in the spring of 1938 under the leadership of Obering R. Blaser. The first prototype of the Fw-190V1 was ready in May 1939 and was flown in Bremen on June 1, 1939, by Captain Hans Sander. The second prototype, the FW-190V2, armed with two MG131 machine guns and two MG17 - all caliber 7.92 mm, flew in October 1939.
