Description

Anything but typical

Capture natural perspectives with a new sense of freedom! With the fast f/1.4 aperture, rapid autofocus, smooth bokeh, and top performance in low light, this 50 mm full-frame prime lens boosts your creativity.

Focal length 50 mm. The beauty of natural projection.

There is nothing better than a bright 50 mm fixed focal length lens to capture a natural perspective with incredible ease! From unique portraits of people and places, to sharp close-up shots of details and textures, the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.4 captures various scenes in any lighting conditions. With its normal (or "standard") field of view and sharp optical elements, you can follow your instincts: take a few steps back to fill your frame more with the scene or get closer to your subject without distortions.

Fast and versatile f/1.4 aperture

The fast maximum aperture of f/1.4 ensures you immense flexibility to shoot anywhere with available light at lower ISO settings, use faster shutter speeds, and work creatively with depth of field or backlit scenes. With the wide-open f/1.4 aperture, you can make your subject stand out against the large, beautifully soft bokeh in the background or foreground. Shooting landscapes, urban skylines, or street scenes? Simply reduce the aperture value to ensure sharp details with high resolution across the entire frame.

Ultimate clarity even in close-up shots

Sunlight, moonlight, starlight, streetlights, candlelight: even when shooting with the aperture at f/1.4, this lens's multi-focus system locks precisely onto your subject. The autofocus is both fast and silent, allowing you to confidently and discreetly capture moments that would otherwise be lost in the blink of an eye. For more considered compositions, the 0.37 m close focusing distance lets you fill the frame, reveal small details, or comfortably shoot video in tight spaces.

Natural perspectives, beautifully captured

With its impressive performance, the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.4 lens is anything but typical! Colors are vibrant and true to life, contrast is sharp and clear, and brightness is wonderfully even across the frame. Whether you're shooting close-ups or from a distance, with a fully open aperture or at the minimum aperture value, you'll capture scenes with real depth, clarity, and sharpness.

Made for Inspired Explorations

Versatile enough so you don't have to constantly change lenses. Light enough to hold your camera as you wander. Compact enough to fit easily into any gear bag. This 50 mm f/1.4 fixed focal length lens is an excellent travel lens, even when you stay at home! Carefully designed for dust and moisture resistance, it is ready to help you tell your stories whenever and however you decide to explore.

    Verified purchase

I have always been negatively biased towards the 50mm focal length.

My first 50mm was the Manual 50mm 1.8 Ai from 1975, which I adore. It had character as a lens. The AF-G 1.8 that followed had no character, it was just a coverage at 50mm...

For some reason, Nikon has this lens at the same price as the 1.8!! Because it’s not the S series! And what does the S series give you? AF switch and metal barrel but 2/3 of a stop less light. They say the S line has better build quality. Sorry, but I can live without those if I have 1.4 glass. For me, there’s no comparison. I go for the brighter one.

Don’t get stuck on marketing and don’t read too much into sharpness. It’s a 50mm prime. 50mm lenses have been made since 1958! There’s no way it’s not sharp.

As soon as you put the lens on and start shooting images, you’ll forget everything else.

Let’s get to the point! The lens is wonderful. It has character. It has that dreamy, fairytale style, not overly saturated, it has sharpness, no vignetting at 1.4 even with backlight. It has chromatic aberration that’s not easily removed, at least in my case, but I don’t care either.

Its AF is good. Not the best, certainly not better than the 24-70 2.8 S nor better than the 85mm 1.8 S I have, but it gets the job done.

You get a 1.4 to focus on the eyes, to do portraits, not to shoot sports and action. Its bokeh is insane.

I’ve always worked with an 85mm. Since I got the 50mm, I work with it. I like what it gives more.

At 1.4, however, you know that no lens forgives. It’s not for groups. However, at 2.8, when I put it side by side with the 24-70 at the same settings, same camera, the 50mm needed less ISO to work, obviously had cleaner images.

It’s not a makeshift Nikon lens. They’ve worked seriously on it. It’s simply an underrated gem that Nikon released to compete with 3rd party brands like Viltrox. Its quality, price, and weight don’t let you go for a 3rd party lens.

I don’t miss anything from this lens. Whoever gets it as their first lens will never regret it.
