Despite their apparent opposition at first glance, quantitative and qualitative approaches can work complementarily (Sampson, Peterson, Osborn, & Hayden, 2015). The counselor must always keep in mind that the primary goal of professional counseling is to help the client make decisions after gathering all the necessary information and to motivate them to implement these decisions. Quantitative methods can assist in gathering information about the client and in developing their self-awareness, so that they can subsequently interpret it within the broader context in which they develop. The opposition arises more from the poor and hasty use of quantitative professional assessment methods, which reduces to a standardized, quick, and oversimplified matching process that limits rather than promotes exploration.
