The traditional Western civilization has always operated within norms that included a beginning and an end to history, within a defined timeframe. Many believe that the history of humanity has already entered its final millennium.

According to the book of “Genesis,” the creation of the world and the creation of beings happened within a week. Relying on science today, we know that these two milestones are unimaginably distant! The evolution of the Earth's biosphere can now be traced back several billion years. The future of our physical universe is considered even more extensive, perhaps even infinite. However, despite these expanded horizons, both the past and the future timeline has shrunk.

Pessimistic estimates of how long our civilization must run before it collapses, or even before it experiences a final "revelation," are becoming increasingly intense daily. The Earth itself may endure, but humanity will not survive the scorching of our planet by the dying Sun, nor perhaps the exhaustion of Earth's resources.

In the twenty-first century, humanity is at greater risk than ever from the misapplication of science. And the environmental pressures caused by collective human actions could lead to disasters more threatening than any natural hazards.

Our primary concerns naturally relate to the fate of our current generation, and it is everyone's goal to find a way to reconstruct the threats to humanity's future. But for me, and perhaps for others (especially those without restrictive religious beliefs), a cosmic perspective reinforces the imperative need to cherish this "pale blue dot" of the universe.

The subject of this book is directly related to the fact that humanity is more at risk than at any previous phase in its history. The broader world has a potential future that could even be infinite. However, will these enormous time spans be filled with life, or will they end up as empty as the first barren seas of the Earth? The choice may depend solely on us, and the game is now being played seriously, this century!
