The texts of this collective volume highlight the dilemmas and constraints that arise when the field of social research, particularly that of gender inequalities, is mediated by crucial and interconnected issues of voice, representation, narration, as well as resonance and public accountability.

The authors aim to promote the critical role that a critical public anthropology can play, especially when it comes to timeless and socially sensitive issues concerning how the vulnerability of specific social groups is (re)produced, as well as structural violence and biopolitical power, institutional exclusions and the violation of rights, personal and collective political deadlocks, social inequalities, and the multiple incarnations and embodiments of the sense of injustice that permeates the "atmosphere" of everyday life and sweeps along the "dense field" of gendered violence.

In this sense, they urge us to re-imagine and re-define both the "public" character of our research intervention, emphasizing the critical role of theory and ethnography, as well as the very "public" field itself, especially when it is mediated by multiple forms and trends of violent silencing and invisibilization of the conditions that continuously strive to render certain lives (un)thinkable and (non)viable.

This collective volume is hoped to serve as an important handbook that will contribute to discussions regarding the methodological role of social anthropology and the critical public character it can assume through field research on issues of gendered violence and inequalities, as well as through the lens of studying texts, experiences, and lived realities that have shaped the analytical perspective of feminist, queer, postcolonial, and interdisciplinary theory and practice, opening these fields, and consequently us, to other prospects.
